Party Prep

By Charlotte on November 29, 2010 9:59 AM

Celebrating the season with friends and family is the best part of the holidays. So let's get ready to party! Even if seemingly endless to do's have you feeling frazzled, you'll be positively gorgeous in no time with a little help from these foolproof fix-me-ups.

Bremenn's 6-in-1 Skin CreamBremenn-156.jpg

With all the shopping, decorating and baking around the holidays, it can be difficult to find time for beauty. That's when a one-stop solution like Bremenn's 6-in-1 really comes in handy. This multitasking face cream might just work as hard as you do. One tube fights wrinkles, firms, helps smooth and tone, brightens and moisturizes.

In addition to targeting existing fine lines and wrinkles, this beauty booster aims to maintain your skin's elasticity, tone, moisture, smoothness and health. The super moisturizing formula may have been developed for the younger set (20-40 year olds) but it's also great for boomers with normal to slightly dry or combination skin.

For the holidays, this trusted cream is packaged with Bremenn's popular Upper Eyelid Lifter, specifically designed to pump up sagging lids.

On the Shelf: $87 for the gift set including 1.5 ounces 6-in-1 Cream and .5 ounces Upper Eyelid Lifter at Bloomingdales, Dillard's, Lord & Taylor, Macy's, Sephora, Ulta and other select retailerseye_gel-200.jpg

Bambola Beauty's Hydrating Eye Gel

If you're suffering from both holiday stress and red, swollen allergy eyes, this little healer can be a great help. The light, greaseless gel, based on natural botanicals, absorbs quickly to reduce puffiness while smoothing and firming the delicate eye area for a younger look.

It combines:

·         Aloe marbadensis to hydrate, calm and heal

·         Arnica extract (which my doctor recommends for treating bruises) to diminish dark circles

·         Antioxidant-infused green tea extract to plump up dry under-eye skin and slow the aging process

·         Vitamin-rich Mannentake mushroom to brighten, smooth and firm

·         Red bush tea to sooth and stabilize the skin, reducing fine lines and dark circles

Daily use of this preservative-free gel also helps offset the signs of those sleepless nights that can be such a problem at our age.

Fake Bake Self-Tanning Mousse
It may be winter but you can still have a healthy holiday glow with Fake Bake Self-Tanning Mousse. Suitable for all skin types, this fast-drying, foam goes on smoothly without streaking or dark spots. What's more, it doesn't turn you orange or have an unpleasant smell.

Call me crazy, but I tried this bronzer when getting ready for a surprise 60th birthday party for our good friend Terry. Wanting an all-over glow, I enlisted Bob's help to make sure I covered my entire body (move on quickly if that's too much information!). Luckily, this tanner is designed for easy, goof-proof application so the only tricky part of this process was putting on the reusable rubber gloves included in the package.

The Vitamin D-infused formula gave me a healthy, natural bronzed look that helped me pull off bare legs with my LBS (little black skirt) and boots. Color me tan and relieved because in Texas it was too early for tights. Plus, my skin felt softer and the color didn't rub off on my clothes.

On the Shelf: $25.95 for two 4-ounce applicators from FakeBake.com

Piret & Tamara Eye Silk

Want brighter, younger-looking eyelids and long-lasting color? This creamy, waterproof shadow from makeup artists Piret Aava and Tamara Palumbo delivers all that and more. Based on a silicone similar to that used in face primers, Eye Silk goes on smooth and dries instantly, helping to erase fine lines and imperfections. What's more, it stays put with no creasing or fadinEye Silk 144.jpgg!

This expert-makeup-made-simple works especially well when you're time crunched (like now) because it's designed for easy application. Forget about rules. Just use your finger or the Eye Silk Blender Brush ($42) to put the cream on your clean eyelid anyway you like, smudge and go.

Housed in a chic mini pot, this richly pigmented eye brightener comes in tiger's eye (a Boomer Brief fave), amethyst, naked, shimmering sand, black pearl, rockstar, sunset, mink and seashell shades. Plus it's 100% paraben free and hypoallergenic.

On the Shelf: $35 from Piretandtamara.com

TouchBack BrowMarker

Getting older has made my eyebrows do a disappearing act. They're thinning and much lighter than my hair. I'd worry if many of my girlfriends (who shall remain nameless) weren't having the same problem.

Longing for full, healthy-looking brows, I jumped at the chance to try this mistake-proof, soft-tip marker. Its patented formula fills in my thin areas and hides those lighter strands (I swear they're not gray ... yet), giving my brows an even, full finish that lasts until I'm ready to take off my makeup. Good-bye skinny brows!

And using the fine-tip TouchBack marker is easy. Making short, quick upward strokes in the direction your hair grows, you can fill in sparseness, blend color, even hide gray. It comes in dark brown, medium brown, blond and auburn shades.

On the Shelf: $19.95 from TouchBackBrow.com

Korres - Raspberry 250.jpgKorres Raspberry Liquid Lipstick

Don't shy away from color. Go for the bold with this natural, fine-line fixer that combines head-turning lipstick color with delicious lip gloss sheen.

Made with natural moisturizers, the cooling, antioxidant-rich formula balances durable color and high-gloss shine with a lightweight feel. It includes raspberry and pomegranate extracts to protect against free-radical damage and smooth lines for softer, more youthful-looking lips.

This water-based, paraben-free lip quencher comes in fuchsia (a rockin' holiday choice), soft pink, nude, natural, red and berry shades.

On the Shelf: $22 from Sephora and KorresUSA.com.

Miss Oops Show Stoppers

Baby, it's really cold outside. But you can still pick that sexy party dress thanks to these reusable silicone nipple covers. With Miss Oops! Show Stoppers, you can hide your perky parts. These little wonders create a smooth silhouette under all tops, even sheer camisoles. Reusable up to 15 times, Show Stoppers are tapered around the edges so they're invisible beneath clothes.

On the Shelf: $15 from Missoops and select Bed Bath & Beyond storesBody Shaper-200.jpg

Kymaro Body Shaper

Why wait till January to slim down? Smooth out lumps and bumps with a shaper that sucks you in and tightens you up in all the right places. For holiday-party-perfect slimming, we like Kymaro's new Body Shaper. Its patented, breathable design can help you look 10 pounds thinner ... instantly.

Starting below the bust line, this microfiber figure manager comfortably hugs your midsection, distributing excess weight evenly. It also eliminates dreaded back bulge (sadly, we're all prone to it) and helps improve your posture (nice bonus). This smooth, seamless shaper works under the clingiest fabrics, acting like a second skin so only you know it's there. Don't you love a supportive little secret?

On the Shelf: $29.99 at Ubuyez.com; also available in cami and bottom shaper styles.

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
