Cold Feet?

By Bob on December 30, 2010 6:38 AM

My feet and I have a love/hate relationship. It's not that I DON'T like my feet -- it's just that I've been hard on them and they retaliate in a big way, usually by breaking into itty-bitty pieces of bone that have to be wired together when I fall off ladders. You know, stuff like that.

So in an effort to make amends with my much-abused feet, I jumped (well, I don't actually jump much) at the chance to try out Blacksocks' Classic Merino Wool Socks. These aren't just any black socks.

They're crafted in 75% merino wool, typically used in high-end, performance athletic wear.

Why merino wool?

I didn't have an answer to that question, so I went to the Arch Duke of Arches as it were and asked HIM.

"Merino is a wonder wool, finer than conventional wools with a silky feel against the skin. Its threads are excellent at keeping your feet toasty in the chilly winter months. They neutralize odors by allowing your feet to breathe and, surprisingly, act as an antidote to sweat," said Blacksocks president and founder Samy Liechti. "Quite simply, the Classic Merino Wool Socks are some of the most comfortable socks around. Their softness needs to be worn to be believed."

You know what internets? He's right.

These socks are unbelievably soft, comfortable and do a great job of keeping my feet warm. But you want to know the best part? Since the merino wool "breathes," my feet are drier and - well, let's just put it out there - less stinky, than with cotton or synthetic socks. Boomer Brief says pick up a pair - your feet will thank you for it.

Blacksocks is known for its innovative "sockscription" service that delivers socks to your door year round. The company also carries fine undershirts, a line of boxer shorts and briefs, and travel shave kits, all available via subscription. A trial pair of socks $16 and the price includes shipping and tax. More information is available at Blacksocks.com.

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
