The Most Effective Ways to Live Longer

By Bob on January 13, 2011 6:33 AM

Jonny Bowden's The Most Effective Ways to Live Longer - The Surprising Unbiased Truth About What You Should Do To Prevent Disease, Feel Great, And Have Optimum Health and Longevity (whew!) is the perfect book to begin 2011.

This 288-page guide to living your best life ever isn't a hard to read manual with dense text and medical prose. To the contrary, Bowden gives practical advice on how to live a longer, healthier life.

He addresses what he calls "The Four Horsemen of Aging"--free radicals, inflammation, glycation, and stress--and shows how they can harm your health and shorten your life. Then he suggests an arsenal of anti-aging strategies culled from cutting edge research and lessons learned from the longest lived people on the planet. It's powerful stuff.

Bowden examines how the major organs, such as the heart and the brain, age and how you can prevent damage to these vital parts of the body. In total, Boomers learn what they can eat, do, and take to feel great, avoid illness, and live a long life. The chapters are broken down into bite-sized chunks that make it the perfect pick up for the time-stressed. You'll find easy-to-read chapters like How to Keep Your Brain Sharp (perfect for Bob), Boost Your Immune System, What You Should Know About Hormones, and lots more.

This guy knows what he's talking about. Bowden is a nationally known expert on weight loss, nutrition, and health. He is the author of The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth and The 150 Most Effective Ways to Boost Your Energy. He has been featured in the New York Times, Time Magazine, Men's Health and Prevention and he's popular contributor to CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, and CBS.

The Boomer Brief says that if you want to begin 2011 with a step towards living a longer, healthier life - pick up this book.

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
