Wraps & Apps

By Bob on March 7, 2011 4:34 AM

I love my iPod Touch and iPhone - the Apps and accessories make these gadgets about the best I've ever owned. Like a lot of my Boomer brethren and sisteren, I don't go anywhere without 'em. They keep me organized and entertained from doctor's offices to airline terminals.

There are a lot of great companies making gadgets and Apps to enhance the whole iPhone/iPod experience. Two standouts are our friends at Quirky Products and Appitalism. They've got some great new gadgets and some terrific free Apps that I think you're really going to like. Check these out:

Wrapster

The only real problem I have with my iPhone and iPod Touch is keeping the earbuds from getting tangled up. Seems like any way I wrap them, they still come out of my briefcaseWrapster - 284.jpg looking like nest made by a bird on crystal meth. It's a pain to untangle them whenever I want to listen to a couple of tunes.

Well, the folks at Quirky must've had a similar experience. With their new Wrapster you can say good-bye to tangled earbuds thanks to an innovative cord management solution. The Wrapster's unique design allows you to wrap your cords vertically, which means more convenience and less bulk - and less time untangling them. Best of all, Wrapster can also serve as a stand to hold your 3G or 4G Apple iPhone in landscape mode.

Appitalism

When I'm traveling I don't use the in-room alarm clock and I seldom, if ever, place a wake-up call (how many of you have been screwed over by a wake-up call that didn't come...show of hands?). No, I use my iPhone to make sure I stay on schedule.

The folks at Appitalism have come up with some terrific new alarm clock Apps that you'll really like. No, you won't find these Apps on the App Store on your iPhone, but getting them is just as easy and just as free.

Simply use Safari on your iPhone and go to www.appitalism.com, then download the Apps from their site. If you've never heard of Appitalism, relax. It's the first site to combine a social community with an online store to help people quickly and easily discover, discuss and download the best apps and games for all devices. You're gonna like this site and you're really gonna like these free new alarm clock Apps.

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
