Give Hair a Much-Needed Boost ... FREE

By Charlotte on July 15, 2011 6:58 AM

Bob wonders why it takes me so long to get dressed and, for that matter, undressed. But I STRUGGLE with my hair.

Since it's fine and thin with no natural body, my morning styling routine is quite a workout. I start with several body-building sprays then use a blow dryer, flat iron and rollers. Whew!  All that and some days it still falls flat.

At night, in addition to the mandatory hair brushing, I have my eyelashes to worry about. After losing them to chemotherapy about a year and a half ago (talk about depressing), I don't take any chances. I'm ultra careful when removing eye makeup. I also do everything possible to keep my lashes strong, healthy and encourage new growth.

I'd like nothing better than to simplify my hair-styling regime. And to have some help growing long, feathery eye fringe that's not prone to breaking or thinning.

The folks at Ferrum and EnvyDerm want to offer one lucky boomer babe the chance to do just that. They've joined us to give away $250 in hair-boosting prizes, including:

  • The Ferrum Professional Styler - A flat iron that delivers sleek, straight looks without sacrificing volume. It can also curl and provide gentle waves.

  • Envyderm Eyelash Growth & Conditioning Serum - A safe, non-prescription formula that promotes natural eyelash growth to give you longer, fuller, darker lashes.

Get Fat Hair not Flat Hair with the New Ferrum Professional Styler

The Ferrum Professional Styler is a flat iron that smoothes frizzies while adding volume. Designed for use on dry hair, it protects locks from breakage and can curl and make soft waves as well as straighten.

Unlike traditional flat irons with two hot metal sides, the Ferrum's VSS System Technology combines a non-heated, padded fabric element with a tourmaline-coated ceramic plate that heats to 450 degrees. The unique fabric-padded element contains lightweight, anti-static polymers that help hair "breathe" during straightening, increasing volume. Hair that rests on the soft, cool fabric surface retains more of its natural moisture, shine and bounce.

How Do You Use the Ferrum Professional Styler?

For best results, hairstylist and American Beauty Salon owner Barbara Abbasi, who developed the Ferrum styling tool, recommends:

  • Allow ample time for the styler to heat up. The results will be worth it.
  • Make sure your hair is completely dry. Two things change the composition of hair: heat and moisture. If your hair is wet, it will be much less manageable.
  • Always start straightening with the pad facing out or "under" your hair.
  • Begin styling from the root. With this flat iron, you can get very close to the root without burning your scalp.
  • Use a slow and steady motion from root to tip.
  • Control volume by changing the styling angle. To add fullness, turn your hand so your wrist is closer to your head. For a sleeker look, finish by doing an extra stroke with the pad facing inwards.

How Can I Protect My Style?

Barbara advises:

  • Use a lightweight finishing spray to keep your hair in place.
  • Take good care of your styler. It's a great piece of equipment and not exactly cheap to replace, so protect your flat iron by storing it in a heat-proof pouch. Resting your iron on this protective surface during styling also safeguards counters from possible heat damage.
  • Clean your flat iron frequently if you use leave-in conditioners or heat serums, every week or so if not. Build-up on the plates can cause your hair to snag and shorten the life of your styler. To clean, heat the iron; then wipe plates with a non-abrasive cloth. If you're fond of leave-in treatments, use a cleaner made specifically for flat irons. Also, avoid chemical solvents not meant for cleaning your iron.

Enhance Your Natural Beauty with Envyderm Eyelash Serum

EnvyDerm is an effective eyelash growth and conditioning serum that promotes fuller, longer and stronger lashes.

This nonprescription formula is made with active natural ingredients such as bioavailable lipo-oligopeptides that stimulate keratin genes. Powerful SymPeptide technology lengthens and strengthens natural lashes. EnvyDerm uses vitamins, minerals and amino ccids to moisturize and nourish lashes and brows. Plus, it contains only safe ingredients tested by ophthalmologists without involving animals.

How Do You Use EnvyDerm?

The EnvyDerm applicator is very similar to a liquid eyeliner applicator. You apply the stimulating serum once a day before bedtime along the upper and lower lash lines. EnvyDerm does not disrupt the daily application of makeup or other skincare routines. And it can be used on brows as well as lashes (bonus!).

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
