Catching Up With...Bill Buck

By Bob on November 25, 2011 7:20 AM

Bill is a renowned advertising art director and avowed car buff (BMW's mostly) who is as comfortable at the track as he is with his Mac. When he isn't designing award-winning logos, brochures and ads, he spends time with his family.

He'll tell you that what gets him out of bed in the morning is family first and foremost and that he still has a passion for what he does (whatever that is these days!).

Bill admits to being a Boomer who's still trying to decide what he wants to do when he grows up.

We caught up with Bill during a break between ad work and car work. He was contemplating what to have for dinner, so we started there...

What did you have for dinner last night?

Chicken wings in oyster sauce, steamed rice and grilled asparagus. Cheap, delicious and prepared by the best chef in the house. Me! I channel my Mom for inspiration. She was the most incredible cook ever.

What's on your DVR?

Formula 1 racing- because it's the pinnacle of the sport and I'm not getting up to watch it live from China. Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations because it's more than just the food. James May's Road Trip on the BBC. Hilarious! Kill Bill Volume I and II. Tarantino kicks ass!

Lowe's or Home Depot.

Lowe's. Home Depot never has what I need now.

What kind of car do you drive?

BMW, BMW and a Ford truck. They're all for sale. Make me an offer.

Celebrity you'd really like to meet.

Too late for Paul Newman. One of the coolest men on the planet while he was alive. Read about him someday and you'll know why. Did you really think I would say Lady GaGa? I like her, too.

Gilligan's Island: Maryanne or Ginger?

No hesitation. Maryanne. Well, I do like brunettes (read pigtails). Those short-shorts were pretty hot. I suspect the lower maintenance would be a factor as well. She was just so cute!

Where are you traveling to next?

Bangor Maine with my remaining sibling sisters (four left). To enjoy their company and the natural beauty that is Maine. Lobster and wine will be served. Then on to a Taliesin Centennial Pilgrimage for all things Frank Lloyd Wright in the company of one of Australia's best organic architects. I've never taken a month off. I thought it's about time I did. Okay, I lied. I took a month of after my lay-off. Sue me.

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
