Catching Up With...Lauren & Gigi

By Bob on December 23, 2011 5:30 AM

"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" right? Not according to Boomers Lauren Ellwood and Gigi Gold. They put their own spin on that tried-and-truism and instead believe that -- When life gives you lemons, make....a new fragrance!

Fueled by the recession, Lauren and Gigi took their knowledge of scents and Boomers and designed a fabulous fragrance made with natural oils. It's called Cocktail and it's about as intoxicating as its namesake. Fueled with a mix of violet leaves, jasmine and amber, the light fresh scent is subtle while being memorable.

We caught up with the Chicago-area Boomers as they were taking a breather from launching Cocktail. Since we found Lauren first, we jumped at the chance to ask her a few questions...

What are you doing these days, Lauren?

These days are wonderful and busy!

Each day I get out of bed, get my kids ready for school, sip my coffee and begin a fresh day of "work" for Cocktail fine fragrance.

You know how people say that when you love what you are doing, it's not really not work at all? That's how I feel. Since starting Cocktail everyday is a play day!!

What are three songs you've been listening to on your iPod?

Three songs I have been listening to are: I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas. I get up in the morning and listening to that song motivates me. I also love Darius Rucker's It's Alright, it reminds me of what is really important in my life. A third song I listen to is Jimmy Buffet's It's Five O'clock Somewhere, nuff said!

Last concert You attended?

Dave Mason. I love his music and have been listening to him for years. As a matter of fact I think that's how my husband got me to fall in love with him. He used to sing Every Woman to me all the time...go ahead..."Awwww".

Anyway the concert was great, by the middle of it  I was up in front by the stage and looked over to find my husband helping security at the side of the stage! By the end of the concert we found ourselves in the green room with Dave and the band......What a night!!

Favorite Fast Food

I know fast food isn't great for you, so when I eat it, I go all out! When I was in high school I looooved Jack in the Box Super Tacos, but now I go to Burger King to get my super greasy taco treat (but, only on rare occasions, of course)!

What's the one electronic gadget you could not live without?

To be honest - I love to be a couch potato, but I don't have much time to sit on my butt and channel surf for hours. This is why I could never live without my DVR. My favorite shows to record are Modern Family and Two and a Half Men. My DVR not only gives me an excuse to veg-out, it gives me a chance to watch my favorite TV shows when my whole family is home and can belly-laugh with me!

Celebrity you'd really like to meet?

Rachel Ray. I love her sweet, funny, outrageous personality.

We caught up with Gigi a little later in the day and she had a few minutes to answer some questions...

What's your favorite movie, Gigi?

The Notebook is my favorite movie. I love a good love story. I read the book first, thinking the movie couldn't do it justice, but I was wrong. You could feel the intensity between Noah and Allie.

What are you reading now?

I'm reading Gorilla Advertising. Someone recommended it to me because I'm new to the business world. I actually like it. It's about an airline company and how they were able to advertise with little or no budget at all.

Last clothing item you purchased?

Black leather pants! I went online for Cyber Monday! I've wanted a pair for a while and I thought this would be a good time to buy leather pants and get a good deal. Of course the pair I purchased was not on sale!

Coffee or Tea?

Coffee is my drink of choice. I try to treat myself to a Starbucks Grande Skinny Vanilla Latte with 2 Equals every day. As soon as I take the first sip...happiness!

Last Concert you attended?

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band! My all time favorite band ever. I love the way Bruce can tell a story with his music and how he can relate to everyday people. Plus, this concert will always mean a lot to me because it was the last time I saw Clarence Clemmons "the big man" perform. All I can say is MAGIC!

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
