Catching Up With...Ivy Halford

By Bob on January 6, 2012 5:33 AM

Catching up with Ivy Halford is like roping the wind - she's enigmatic, always in motion and as refreshing as a cool Texas breeze.

This Dallas Boomer is also a businesswoman, paramedic skincare specialist and entrepreneur (see what I meant about trying to catch her?) with skincare clinics in New York, LA, Dallas and (possibly soon) Colorado. When she's not taking care of clients, she's making sure her products are making their way to store shelves (Whole Foods Market features them) and available online. We were lucky enough to catch Ivy at her home in Dallas - before she headed out again to Telluride and New York and...

We know you're busy - but tell us what gets you out of bed in the morning.

I usually get up around 4:30 - 5 a.m. every morning! I can't even imagine waking up at 7 am - I'd feel totally guilty! I absolutely LOVE the mornings -- I make my favorite organic cup of coffee and sit in front of my computer and return emails. Then, I go running with my rescue pup Healey-Joe, then on to the gym to spin and workout! After that, I'm off to do my favorite thing - go to my studio to help people get their skin in shape!  There is always so much to do to keep up with taking care of business - making sure I take care of my clients and getting my Ivy's Skin Luv  products in to stores.

Where are your studios and what do you like about the areas?

My main studio is in Dallas - I specialize in skin treatment- all face and body - microdermabrasion and IPL therapy. I also have studios in LA (I'm also a makeup artist in the Hollywood Make-up Union) and New York City. Hopefully Telluride is next. I have friends and clients from Dallas wanting me to open a place there - it would be great!

Dog or Cat?

I'm a dog girl (love cats, too)! I've always loved dogs as they have been great companions and they love getting outdoors and running everywhere with me! They are so much fun to watch when they are playing-they crack me up!  I've always met some truly fabulous people (some life-long friends now) through my dogs-really fun part of my life.

Ivy & Healey-Joe

Ivy with her rescue dog-500.jpgWhen did you get your rescue pup and how did you find her?

I got Healey-Joe from North Poodle Rescue. She was named after Janet Healey and Joe Grisham -- owners of 'Hooray for the Underdog'.

You spent the holidays in Telluride. What makes it a special place for you?

I spent it with my three favorite things: my pup; nature and dear friends! This trip I had H-J on the plane with me as a therapy dog (we're training her to work with children from abused homes). It's a beautiful thing!

Last clothing item you purchased.

I just got some really great cold weather gear for my trip to Colorado. I'm so happy with all the new technology in clothing material to help keep us warmer than what we had 'back then'...I can now be a snow bunny without the freezing!

What time do you go to bed during the week?

I'm up so early--usually crash by no later than 9:30 as I know how important good sleep is to our health! I love my sleep!

Celebrity you'd really like to meet.

I've been very fortunate to have met some of my favorite Celebs while living and working in LA. One of my childhood dreams was to meet Barbra Streisand, and I got the chance to work on her in my lovely studio in Santa Monica -- such a lovely woman! Dream come true for me!

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
