His days begin by walking his daughter to school - then on to teaching and ultimately back home for family time, grading classroom assignments and working on his own projects (screenplays, novels and plays) before falling into bed around 1:30 a.m. We caught up with Guy late in the day, but he still had enough energy for our crazy questions...
What are you doing these days?
What gets me out of bed is the need to accompany my daughter Dominy to school. What keeps me out of bed is the need to finish the various writing projects lying about the desk. I'm currently working on a play, God and Sex, when I'm not re-arranging paper-clips and sharpening pencils. There's a screenplay and a couple of novels winking at me from time to time. And I'm teaching screenwriting at Columbia University and Barnard College.
I spent the last year writing Screenwriter's Compass: Character as True North. It's a How-To and a How-To-Think book on screenwriting. Very glad to have it finished and out in the world.
Guy with daughter Dominy and son Whitmore
When not writing (or aggressively avoiding it), I'm pretty busy keeping my kids (Dominy, 10, and Whitmore, 5) safe, happy, fed and from acting out their sibling rivalry too terribly. And cherishing my beloved wife, Jeannine Dominy. Jeannine is also a writer. We met in a graduate seminar at Columbia Film School some 24 years ago and have been one another's first reader and editor since then. The household has produced six plays, two novels and 16 or so screenplays.
We live in Manhattan in a neighborhood currently blighted by the building of a new subway. We're ready to move. But not sure if that means the countryside or London.

Teka Don at my local sushi restaurant. It's raw tuna on sticky rice with a smattering of seaweed and sesame seeds.

Mozart: Six Quartets Dedicated to Haydn; perhaps the most perfect set of quartets ever. Schutz: Weinactshistorie; an acquired taste: choral church music from the 17th century. Telemann: Twelve Fantazias; an astonishing suite of solo violin music.

Wandering around London.
What's your favorite restaurant?
The Beach Café for comfort. L'Absinthe for food. The Beach is my neighborhood local. Everyone knows me. l'Absinthe is a nearby French Bistro that makes the best steak frites, and roast chicken, and sole meunierre and soufflé and has these terrific cheese croutons they bring you with the wine.

Peanut butter: Crunchy or smooth?
Smooth. On Wonder Bread.
Gilligan's Island: Maryanne or Ginger?
Both, please.
Last movie you saw in a real movie theater.
Hugo. A friend invited us to a screening. My daughter Dominy liked the novel better. But my son Whitmore found it a bit frantic and frightening. I enjoyed it a great deal. In part because it's one of the only 3D movies that didn't seem like a gimmick, where 3D was actually well used. And I loved the story of Melies -- but it did seem a bit of an film buff's film.
