You Could Win a Little Flattery

By Charlotte on June 1, 2012 6:25 AM

I'm wild about high heels. Wedges, stilettos or platforms, no matter the type, they up the style factor of EVERYTHING from shorts to stapless dresses.

They're a natural choice for helping a 5' 2" Boomer like me stand tall and proud at graduations (way to go Jacob!), during showers, even when shopping ... at least until my feet start to give out.

That's when it'd be nice to have a backup plan. The folks at CitySlips want to give two lucky Boomer Babes the chance to do just that. They've joined us to give away two pairs of their popular, foldable ballet flats. Perfect for summer, these hot, canvas numbers flatter your feet while helping them feel just fine.

You could win a foot-pampering pair of foldable CitySlips flats ... FREE.

With CitySlips, it's simple to be prepared for a foot-ervention. These crazy, cute flats fold in half for easy carrying. They come in a matching wristlet-size, travel pouch that has no problem fitting inside medium to large bags. And they include a clever, drawstring case so you have somewhere to stash your heels. How handy!

I'm wondering why I didn't think of that. But luckily, two New York University students did. Tired of the pain associated with "killer" heels, Katie Shea and Susie Levitt launched CitySlips out of their dorm room in 2009. Since then, they've sold thousands of pairs at retailers across the country, including long-time Texas favorite Neiman Marcus.

City Slips - 650.jpgI've enjoyed taking my bright, red CitySlips everywhere from Southlake Town Center, my top spot for drop-in shopping, to Tampa, where I visited my baby sister Pam (she's five years younger). They're a perfect solution anytime you need to rescue your feet from sky-high heels or just want something easy to slip on around the house.

Since they're flexible and have an elastic back, CitySlips are comfy whether I'm sitting, standing or walking. Even better, I don't have to worry about how they look because these sweet flats bring on compliments as well as contentment.

Canvas CitySlips come in three summer-rific colors: red (you gotta love it!), khaki and navy.

On the Shelf: $40 at Neiman Marcus. For information on other CitySlips styles and special offers, follow the brand on Facebook and Twitter.

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
