For years, Bob and I spent every Friday night grocery shopping at Tom Thumb. (Do we know how to party or what?) Besides having wonderful, fresh veggies, it was around the corner from our home and church, and we'd bump into at least one friend every outing. Good times!
So we're thrilled to team up with one of our longtime, favorite hangouts to give one lucky reader a FREE taste of the experience. You could win a $50 gift card to help fill your cart at Tom Thumb, where every dollar spent earns gas rewards. (Check the end of this post for details on how to enter.)
If you don't have a Tom Thumb in your area, no problem! This prize is good at any supermarket in the country that's part of the Safeway family (Safeway, Vons, Randalls and Tom Thumb.)
They've joined us to celebrate a new program that lets you use reward points for gas discounts at participating Exxon and Mobil stations. That means Rewards Club members can save money on groceries and gas, but fill up wherever it's more convenient: either a store location, Exxon or Mobil. Sweet!
Want a wallet-friendly way to fill your cart as well as your tank?
We're celebrating ExxonMobil joining Tom Thumb's gas rewards program by giving away a $50 gift card to help you save on groceries and gas. This sweet budget-stretcher can be used at any Tom Thumb, Randalls, Vons or Safeway location in the country.

Since Tom Thumb has it all, the only problem is deciding how to spend the $50 prize. To stretch your spending, first make sure you're a Rewards Club member. It's free! You'll just need to do a little paperwork either in the store or at TomThumb.com. Then look for special shelf tags and signs describing savings exclusively for Reward Club members.
You'll earn gas rewards whether you go for groceries, pharmacy purchases or another gift card. The last option got me to thinking because Tom Thumb carries gift cards for everywhere from McDonalds to Macys ... more than 300 in all. Christmas is around the corner. And qualifying gift cards earn 2 points per dollar in gas rewards while grocery and pharmacy purchases earn 1 point per dollar in gas rewards.
CHA-CHING! I could get a jump on my Christmas shopping and double my gas rewards because almost all gift card purchases made in store with your reward card earn gas points. Excluded are American Express, PayPower, MasterCard, My Choice, Tom Thumb, Visa, Only 1 Visa, NetSpend and RE-loadit gift cards as well as online gift card purchases.
You can track your points on your store receipts, or by registering at tomthumb.com. Reward points are available about 4 hours after earned at ExxonMobil; immediately at Tom Thumb gas stations. Once you have 100 points, you can get a 10 cent/gallon discount on a fill-up. More points bring you a larger discount - up to 20 cents/gallon at ExxonMobil stations or up to $1/gallon at Tom Thumb stations
Even better, cashing in your gas rewards is EASY. Just enter your zip code on tomthumb.com to find participating locations. (There are 20 in my area!)
At the pump, simply use your Reward Card to access your points. Or, if you're like me and don't need another card to carry, just enter your phone number. Then follow the screen prompts to accept and redeem your rewards. You can choose to use all, none or part of your bounty. Just keep in mind that gas reward points expire the month following the month in which they're earned so don't wait too long.
