Netflix continues to raise the bar for streaming content and original series. Charlotte and I fell hard for House of Cards when it debuted and (OK, just me) I love BoJack Horseman and Orange is the New Black. The only problem with success is that people expect you to keep topping yourself.
No problem for Netflix.
The streaming service/original content provider continues to hit it out of the park with new, original productions and even some "comfort" programming that make it a must-have in every household. Don't take my word for it. I've got 53 million Netflix subscribers to back me up on this.
Here are three I'm anxious to see this spring.
1. House of Cards
It's Season 3 for this superb political series and Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) has finally achieved his quest for the presidency. Tensions mount with first lady Claire (Robin Wright) and you just know there will be more twists and WTF moments than you can count. Coming Feb. 27.
2. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Ellie Kemper (The Office) stars as a woman who leaves a cult after 15 years to start a new life in New York. Tina Fey and Robert Carlock (30 Rock) produce this comedy, originally set for NBC. The back story is that NBC passed on the series because it made them **ahem** uncomfortable. You can comfortably watch it beginning March 6.
3. Bloodline
Sam Shepard and Sissy Spacek head a Florida Keys innkeeper family that unravels when a black-sheep son returns after a long-buried tragedy. Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) and Linda Cardellini (ER) co-star. Coming March 20.
Later This Year
Orange Is the New Black
Season 3 picks up in the aftermath of Vee's death and the Litchfield prison's financial woes.
Grace and Frankie
Comedy from Marta Kauffman (Friends) stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as "frenemies" brought together when their husbands fall in love with each other. I'm holding off on endorsing this one, but you can't beat the casting.
Comfort & Joy
Netflix continues to be a destination for theatrical movies and, especially, libraries of old TV shows. The entire Friends catalog is now online so you can binge comfortably.
