Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

By Bob on November 10, 2016 3:13 AM

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be...unless it's streaming on Netflix. Then, there's a good chance it's everything you remember and a whole lot more. Coming November 25th, you'll be able to judge for yourself when it releases Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

The four, ninety-minute episodes debut on Netflix Nov. 25th

Gilmore Girls A Year in the Life - Alt - 600.jpgThe revival consists of four, ninety-minute episodes covering four seasons of Lorelai and Rory's existence in the fictional town of Stars Hollow. Before you go all, I-bet-this-one's-jumped-the-shark, on me, you should know that Netflix reunited (almost) the entire cast from the original 2000-2006 series.

The gang's all here - Lorelai (Lauren Graham,) Rory (Alexis Bledel,) Luke (Scott Patterson,) Emily (Kelly Bishop,) Kirk (Sean Gunn,) and Lane (Keiko Agena) are all featured. Only Richard (Edward Herrmann) who died in 2014 won't be making the return trip. Even Melissa McCarthy (Sookie) and musician Grant Lee Phillips (town troubadour) are all checking in.

Revivals...let's just put it out there...can be tough to pull off (finger wag to you A Very Brady Christmas...and every Happy Days revival) but I have hope for this one. Netflix drafted the original producing/writing team of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino to helm the ship, so I have my fingers crossed.

Return to Stars Hollow the day after Thanksgiving

Stars Hollow-518.jpgSo, the day after Thanksgiving when you're in a turkey-stuffing-cranberry-sauce coma, switch over to Netflix and return to Stars Hollow. I'm sure Lorelai and Rory will be drinking big cups of coffee and they'll be talking so fast you'll think they spiked it with meth.

Don't mind the dust, the housekeeper comes on Thursday.

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
