I know I need to drink water. Besides supporting your immune system, water can help you lose weight, smooth your skin (there's no easier anti-aging treatment!) even encourage your hair to grow faster.

Arctic Zero

By Bob on July 12, 2012 2:41 AM | Read More

In addition to being a chocoholic (My name is Bob and I'm a chocoholic), I also love ice cream. As a kid growing up, ice cream was the go-to dessert in our Texas household. It would be today, except for the fact that I now have the metabolism of a speed bump. Ice cream doesn't appear on our table very often, because I'm trying to avoid the side effects of over-indulging. That was until I met Arctic Zero.

SweeTango Apples

By Bob on October 19, 2011 6:53 AM | Read More

You know the old saying, "An Apple A Day..." yeah, you know the rest. Well, I don't know about the doctor part of that saying, but I do eat an apple (almost) every day. I have these big executive lunches every day here at blogger HQ, usually consisting of a pimento cheese sandwich, followed by an apple for dessert. Don't get me started about Charlotte's lunch choices...let's just say they're low-fat, low-cal, high in protein and topped with plenty of hot sauce. No apples. No dessert, either. It's just how she rolls.

Sweetwater Spice Co. BBQ Baths

By Bob on October 5, 2011 6:22 AM | Read More

A few days ago we played host to my niece Jacquelin Wester and her husband Mitch while they were in Texas. We didn't have time to grill while they were in town. And since Mitch never met a grill (or big ol' chunk of protein) he couldn't tame, Charlotte and I sent them back to Florida with a bottle of Sweetwater Spice Co.'s Apple Chipotle Brine for their BBQ grill.

Low-Cal Coolers

By Charlotte on June 15, 2011 6:49 AM | Read More

Bob and I practically live in our backyard this time of year. We enjoy "gardening" (he digs holes for my perennials, runs drip lines from the sprinkler heads and kills weeds; I supervise), lunching on the patio and relaxing in the pool.

Simply Sensible Meals

By Charlotte on April 6, 2011 9:21 AM | Read More

For years, my girlfriends have teased me about my wacky eating habits. They'll tell you I live on dill pickles and toothpicks (I actually prefer graham crackers), Altoids and cereal (Special K without milk, of course).

Dibs 140-Bite Value Pack

By Charlotte on September 1, 2010 9:55 AM | Read More

Our normally empty nest assumes a flutter of activity when my sister Pam and nephews Jake, 16, and Zach, 11, visit. Aiming to be the cool aunt, I always plan adventures for the boys, stock up on sweet treats and organize a family cookout-and-swim-day to beat the Texas heat.

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
