Four Must-Have Hand Creams

By Charlotte on February 20, 2012 6:14 AM

Our hands speak volumes. I started worrying about the message mine were sending after talking with one of my girlfriends (who shall remain nameless!). She laughingly confided that her cute, little granddaughters always wanted her to play the wicked, old witch because she has "wrinkly" hands.

Can you say wake-up call? I hadn't thought about how easy it is for our hands to reveal our age but those girls were onto something. Moving my hands to the top of my to-do list, I began a serious search for moisturizers to treat dry, rough, Boomer skin. These four must-haves fill the bill and absorb quickly so you're not left with that annoying greasy feeling.

Spa Ritual 122.jpgSparitual Handprint Hand Serum

An anti-aging powerhouse, Sparitual's new Handprint Hand Serum hydrates and smoothes skin while fighting fine lines and wrinkles, loose/thin skin and age spots. The Boomerlicious lotion contains a hard-working blend of botanical antioxidants and all-natural ingredients, 72% of them certified organic.

I like using one or two pumps of this intensive moisturizer first thing in the morning and before bed. During the day, I layer on one of the less-expensive hand-tidotes listed below. I love that I can apply and re-apply them while blogging and never miss a beat!

On the Shelf: $38 (1 ounce) at Skinstore.com, Skincarerx.com, and fine salons and spas nationwide

I Love... Super Soft Hand Lotion

New to the U.S., this youth-inspiring bargain buy is already a favorite in Europe and Canada. It locks in moisture to help keep hands looking and feeling younger.

You can use this rich cream to soften and smooth skin on the job or anytime your hands feels dry. As a bonus, the yummy scent will give you a little boost. This treat comes in seven utterly delightful fragrances: Blueberry & Smoothie, Coconut & Cream, Lemons & Limes, Raspberry & Blackberry, Strawberries & Milkshake, Vanilla & Ice Cream and what's become our fav Mango & Papaya.

On the Shelf: $5.99 (2.5 ounces) at Drugstore.com and Walmart, Rite Aid and Duane Reade stores

Lifetherapy Everyday Handcreme

Talk about a mood booster. This hand cream, like all Lifetherapy products, is designed to let you set the tone for your day when you select your scent. You can choose Vacation, Chill, Escape, Flirt or Boomer Brief-approved Play, a fun fragrance with hints of fresh jasmine.

Another one for your desk or kitchen drawer, this silky lotion goes to work quickly and helps protect skin from drying elements. The paraben-free cream moisturizes and soothes with good-for-you ingredients like olive, grapeseed and jojoba esters oils, Vitamin E, aloe vera and oat protein.

On the Shelf: $18 (3.5 ounces) at lifetherapy.com

L'Occitane En Province Shea Butter Hand Cream

It's easy to see why L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream is a best seller for this beloved beauty brand (they say one tube sells every 5393 150.jpgfive seconds). Just a dab of this must-have keeps your hands primed for hours. Besides being super moisturizing, it heals and nourishes with a comforting blend of 20% Shea Butter, honey, Sweet Almond Extract and Vitamin E. Plus, the jasmine-laced scent is nice and light.

Another winner from L'Occitane en Provence, a brand devoted to using natural active ingredients from the south of France, this skin quencher comes in a handy one-ounce size that fits easily in even my smaller handbags. You gotta love that!

On the Shelf: $10 (1 ounce); $28 (5.2 ounces) at usa.loccitane.com and L'Occitane boutiques

We'd like to shout out a big "Thank You" to all the brands in this post; they provided free samples for review and testing.

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
