The good folks at the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas have come to their collective beer-making senses. Now, for a limited time (sounds kinda like a Toyota commercial don't it?) they're selling our beloved Prickly Pear Lager in six-packs and cases.
You're welcome 'Merica.
I fell in love with this seasonal find last summer when it was only sold as part of the Shiner Family Reunion Variety Packs (Translation: It wasn't available in its own 6-packs). To get this delicious brew, I had to buy a LOT of Shiner (not that there's anything wrong with that) to get the one or two bottles of Prickly Pear I wanted.
Now I can get all I want. And I want it all. Because Prickly Pear is my favorite summertime beer.
It's a multi-layered golden lager brewed with multiple malts including caramel, wheat and two-row barley alongside Citra and Golding hops - and - you guessed it - the red fruit of the prickly pear cactus. The prickly pear gives the beer a fruity aroma reminiscent of strawberries, watermelon and honeydew.
Think Blue Moon with a Texas twang, y'all.
Put on your work gloves and grab a Prickly Pear while you can. Because when Shiner decides Prickly Pear season is over, you're stuck until next year.
