Master of None

By Bob on November 5, 2015 4:31 AM

I've been a fan of Aziz Ansari since his days on Amy Poehler's Parks & Recreation. His Tom Haverford character was easily one of the most memorable (OK, I liked the imitable Ron Swanson, too) on the sitcom and his standup (Buried Alive and Live at Madison Square Garden) is gut-busting funny.

Netflix is the latest to jump on the Ansari love wagon with his new series Master of None. It features Aziz in the lead role of Dev, a New York actor trying to navigate a fulfilling love life that may - or may NOT include his girlfriend (Noel Wells).

The premise is pretty much stock sitcom stuff, but the trailer hints that it'll be an extension of his standup specials. That's a BIG selling point, because he's got a knack for filtering the world through his unique point of view. And that point of view is always laugh-out-loud funny.

Ansari and Parks and Recreation writer Alan Yang spearhead the new show, so you can expect plenty of humor from unexpected sources. It should be a lot of fun. You can watch Master of None on Netflix beginning November 6.

As Tom Haverford might encourage you, "Treat Yo Self!"

Playing Favorites is a column where Charlotte and I pull back the curtain on our Boomer lives to show you what we're into these days. It may be a movie we've discovered. A new restaurant. Great food. Interesting drink. A song we can't get out of our heads...it could be anything. It's all about discovery and the stuff that makes us happy. So, step inside our world and let us show you around. Don't mind the dust, the housekeeper comes on Thursday.

Prepare your own Mexican quick fix with this Chipotle-inspired bowl. Carbs are moderated by filling the bowl with beans, extra veggies and chicken. No need for rice, since the beans count as carbs.

Tips:

If you love tomatoes, increase the quantity to 1/2 cup, but note that the carbohydrates will also increase.

If preparing this recipe for one person, cut all of the ingredients in half. Or simply prepare the full recipe up to the end of step 2 and store leftover chicken and vegetable-bean mixture in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave on High for 1 to 2 minutes, or until heated through, and continue with step 3.

Health Bite: The iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc in black beans help to keep bones strong and healthy.
